Terms of Service

The conditions under which you may use promptstudy.org — including a clear statement that everything published here is educational reference material, not medical, genetic, or legal advice.

Terms of Service

Last updated: June 10, 2026. These Terms of Service (the "Terms") govern your access to and use of promptstudy.org (the "Site"). By browsing, reading, or otherwise using the Site, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please discontinue use. We may revise these Terms from time to time; the "Last updated" date above reflects the most recent change, and continued use after a revision constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

1. What promptstudy.org Is — and What It Is Not

promptstudy.org is an independent, educational knowledge hub focused on hereditary cancer genetics, multi-gene panel testing, patient registries, and precision medicine. The Site grew out of the legacy of the PROMPT Study (Prospective Registry Of MultiPlex Testing) and is maintained as a reference library for patients, families, genetic counselors, clinicians, students, and science-literate readers.

The Site is not a clinical service, a diagnostic tool, a laboratory, a pharmacy, a store, or a lead-generation funnel. It does not sell tests, kits, consumables, or any product. Descriptions of how genetic samples are collected and processed — saliva kits, buccal swabs, blood draws — are provided to explain the science, not to recommend, endorse, or solicit the purchase of any product or service.

2. Educational Purpose Only — No Medical, Genetic, or Legal Advice

All content on the Site is published for general educational and informational purposes only. It explains how testing, registries, and genetic mechanisms work; it does not interpret your individual situation. The Site does not provide medical advice, genetic counseling, diagnosis, treatment recommendations, or legal advice, and nothing on the Site should be relied upon as a substitute for any of these.

No provider–patient or counselor–client relationship is created by your use of the Site, by reading any article, or by contacting us through any form or address listed here. We do not know your medical history, family history, genetic results, or personal circumstances, and we cannot and do not tailor any content to them.

Hereditary cancer risk is highly individual. A given gene variant may mean very different things for different people depending on family history, ancestry, prior findings, and evolving evidence. Always consult a qualified, licensed healthcare professional or a certified genetic counselor before making any decision about genetic testing, screening, surveillance, risk-reducing measures, or treatment. Never disregard professional advice, or delay seeking it, because of something you read on this Site. If you may be experiencing a medical emergency, contact your local emergency services immediately.

3. Acceptable Use

You agree to use the Site lawfully and in good faith. You agree not to:

  • use the Site, or any content from it, to provide medical, genetic, or legal advice to others, or to represent its general educational material as advice specific to any individual;
  • scrape, harvest, mirror, or systematically download content using automated means without our prior written permission;
  • attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Site, its servers, or any connected systems, or to probe, scan, or test their vulnerability;
  • introduce malware, attempt to disrupt or overload the Site, or interfere with another user's access;
  • misrepresent the Site's affiliation with any institution, registry, or individual, or imply an endorsement that has not been given;
  • remove, obscure, or alter any copyright, attribution, or proprietary notice.

We may suspend or restrict access to the Site, in whole or in part, for any user who breaches these Terms or whose use threatens the integrity, security, or availability of the Site.

4. Intellectual Property

Except where otherwise noted, the original written content, explanatory guides, page structure, layout, illustrations, and other materials on the Site are the original work of promptstudy.org and are protected by copyright and other intellectual-property laws. You may read this content, share links to it, and quote brief excerpts with clear attribution and a link back to the source page for non-commercial, educational purposes.

You may not reproduce, republish, redistribute, or create derivative works from substantial portions of the content — or use it for commercial purposes — without our prior written consent. Trademarks, registry names, institutional names, and journal citations referenced on the Site remain the property of their respective owners and are used only for accurate description and attribution. Reference to a study, institution, or publication does not imply that party's endorsement of this Site.

5. Accuracy, Currency, and the Pace of Science

Genetics is a fast-moving field. Variant classifications are reassessed as evidence accumulates, guidelines are revised, and yesterday's "variant of uncertain significance" can be reclassified tomorrow. We make a good-faith effort to ground our content in published evidence and to describe mechanisms accurately, but we make no warranty that any content is complete, current, or free from error. Content may not reflect the most recent guidelines at the time you read it. Where a date or source is relevant to a decision, verify it against a primary source and a qualified professional.

6. Third-Party References and Links

The Site may cite, reference, or link to third-party publications, registries, and institutions for educational and attribution purposes. We do not control those sources and are not responsible for their content, accuracy, availability, or practices. A reference or link is not an endorsement, and the inclusion of any third-party material does not create an affiliation between us and that party.

7. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Site and all content are provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Site will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free, that defects will be corrected, or that the Site or its servers are free of harmful components.

8. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, promptstudy.org and its maintainers, contributors, and affiliates shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, data, goodwill, or other intangible losses, arising out of or relating to your access to, use of, or inability to use the Site or any content on it — including, without limitation, any decision made or action taken in reliance on educational content published here. Because the Site provides general educational information and not advice, you assume full responsibility for any decision you make based on it, and you agree that the appropriate remedy for dissatisfaction with the Site is to stop using it. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations of liability, so portions of this section may not apply to you.

9. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless promptstudy.org and its maintainers and contributors from any claims, damages, liabilities, and expenses arising out of your misuse of the Site, your breach of these Terms, or your violation of any law or the rights of a third party.

10. Governing Terms and Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, that provision will be limited or severed to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect. Our failure to enforce any provision is not a waiver of our right to do so later. These Terms constitute the entire agreement between you and promptstudy.org regarding your use of the Site.

11. Contact

If you have questions about these Terms, you can reach the editorial team through the contact page on this Site. Please note that contacting us is for questions about the Site itself — it does not establish any clinical, counseling, or advisory relationship, and we cannot respond to requests for individual medical or genetic guidance.
